Experiemntal House Rules – Imperial Bunker and Webway Portal

A while ago our club members were chatting about the idea of creating data sheets for some of our terrain, as such I’ve created some experimental rules for them.

Here are the version 1 rules for our Eldar Webway Gate and Imperial Bunker.

Please let us know what you think by clicking on the below images, you’ll be taken to the PDF.

Webway Portal Imperial Bunker

These are currently the first edition of the rules and will most likely get tweaked after a bit of play testing, it’ll be good to get input from the wider gaming community (it should help with balance).

Club Meet 13.06.15

Another Saturday and another club meet!

The Space Wolves Descend...
The Space Wolves Descend…

This week saw Matt’s Imperial Guard take on Sam’s Dark Eldar in a follow on from the previous weeks Defence of Pandarus 15K per side game, Lee’s Space Wolves descended on Alexanders Hive Fleet and the guys tried to take down the King in Yellow in Arkham Horror.

First up was Lee’s and Alexanders game, 2.5K per side of the Champions of Fenris vs Hive Fleet Cronus. Alexander was fielding his Scythed Hierodule, a truly monstrous beast, but as the rules are now quite old how would it hold up in the melee of 7th edition…

The game itself was a close fought thing with both forces feeling each other out and not wanting to commit too soon, when the dust finally settled the Spaces Wolves had claimed the victory but if the game had gone any longer the Wolves were likely to be wiped out.

The Horror of Arkham
The Horror of Arkham

The Hierodule is a scary critter but compared to the new generation Gargantuan Creatures (we’re looking at you Wraith Knight!) they need a substantial points reduction…

In the Arkham Horror game everything went wrong for the instigators from the outset… To be fair, we were against Hastur, The King in Yellow, The Master of Insanity.

Dave travelled to another dimension and was driven insane by the horrors there, becoming lost in time and space, Michelle took on an avatar (masque) of Hastur, the seemingly harmless “Black Man”. He promptly devoured her soul.

Jon travelled through a gate, survived the otherworldly journey, and was driven mad by a ghost who was waiting for him when he came back. By this time the city was overrun with monsters, all the shops were closed and the civilians either left or killed.

Target acquired, bring it down...
Target acquired, bring it down…

The group were helpless to stop the yellow cultists summoning their unholy Lord. Alex didn’t stand a chance, he was killed instantly. Gaz single-handedly attacked the living god, and his blows seemed to be having an effect… Then Hastur noticed the puny mortal and squished him like a bug. The end.

The last game of the night was a follow on from the week before (well, in Matt’s head at least…). The Imperial Guard were investigating an Eldar Webway portal nestled in a small forest near an abandoned mining complex, as the investigation began the Dark Eldar set upon the Guard, unfortunately for the Dark Eldar the Guard were ready.

It was a massacre as the Dark Eldar fell to the focused Guard fire, the Dark Eldar did claim a small victory by taking out the Guard Colonel as she and her Command ventures too far from the main Guard line unsupported.

The Defence of Pandarus

“The Eldar struck just before dawn, appearing as if from nowhere in vast numbers. Before the local PDF could respond they had seized the Fortress of Redemption and the local mining complex. As fate would have it, the local garrison had just received shipment of a new complement of anti-aircraft guns from the nearby Squat refugee settlement.

Deployment
Deployment

A handful of Squats were still just outside the city gates preparing for departure, as the alarms went off, slowly they turned their ponderous vehicles about and prepared to engage the Eldar Raiders alongside the humans.

For hours the war raged. Casualties were horrendous on both sides. A graceful Eldar knight was brought to its knees, its spiritstone shattered by precision bombardment. A massive mushroom cloud heralded the launch of Squat rad bombs, and gave the orbiting defence platforms a target to fire at.

The mighty Avatar of Khaine himself was seen stalking the battlefield, wrecking tanks and troops alike until he was banished by the stalwart defenders. Two more Wraithknight stalked towards the Imperial lines, the Guard massed their fire, but could not fell the mighty spirit walkers. Defeat seemed inevitable…

Then, as suddenly as the attack started, the Eldar were gone. Whatever their purpose had been in attacking the city, no one can say, certainly they had taken nothing, and left carnage, but it is not the Eldar way to waste lives. No one had reported sightings of the Dark Eldar leaders, and several Squat mining teams had not appeared for their assigned duties. Were the two events connected?

What was the Eldar’s mysterious objective?

Was this all part of some larger plan as yet unclear to the Imperium?

These questions loomed large as the Squats and Humans counted their dead….” Continue reading The Defence of Pandarus

Club Meet 30.5.15

Another two weeks has passed and the latest club meet has rolled around!

Dark Eldar vs Wolves
Dark Eldar vs Wolves

Tonight saw the Heroquest campaign continue, Sam’s Dark Eldar take on Lee’s Space Wolves and Sam throwing down the gauntlet to Matt’s Guard.

In the Heroquest campaign the band of adventuring Heroes made it deeper into the depths of Kellars Keep… It’s amazing seeing how many differences there are in the UK and US versions! It feels like we only got half the game!!

At some point we might have to do a comparison article, but that’ll have to wait for another day.

Back to our brave band of adventures they managed to successfully overcome the obstacles that were placed in there way. Highlights included the Dwarf failing to disarm almost every trap he came across, the Barbarian failing to exit a magically locked door (despite all the other part members walking through it in from of him) and the Barbarian one shooting what should have been a challenging and scary Chaos Sorcerer! Club Meet 16.5.15

Having battled through the Hadleigh Show traffic it was time for our regular fortnightly club meeting with a varied selection of games being played.

Munchkin
Munchkin

First up was Munchkin and Magic with Pete and Wayne:

The blue munchkin (Wayne) meandered around the dungeon despite not knowing what he was doing, loot falling at his feet. Despite the green munchkins best attempts to that him with a level 32 carnivorous furry plant, the blue munchkin still managed to escape the dungeon first.

Wayne then lost 4 games of MTG to Peter 2-0 each time, back to the drawing board for Wayne’s decks…

Sam and James were playing 40K, 2.5K per side, Dark Eldar vs ‘Nids

A hard fought scourging game where Sam had unfortunately taken many fast attack. James had managed first blood and wiped out a fast attack to secure two victory points on turn two. Continue reading Club Meet 16.5.15

Club Meet 2/5/15

It’s not often that a new Codex has such a polarising effect as the new Eldar one has had. There has been a large part of the Wargaming Community (dubbed Whinegamers – Matt) who have stated that this is the most broken book known to man and will win all games…

IMG_2412With the new Eldar book in hand Gaz had thrown down the gauntlet to Matt’s Imperial Guard, this could be the makings of the unstoppable force vs the immovable object…

Before we look at that game let’s look at the other two games of the evening.

First up was Sam’s Dark Eldar vs Dave’s Raven Guard, 2,000pts a piece. Dave had gone for as many bodies as possible mainly mounted in Rhino’s and Drop Pods, which Sam was not prepared for. The result was massed ‘flamey death’ as Dreadnaughts toasted the Eldar in their transports and Tactical and Assault Marines cut down the survivors… Continue reading Club Meet 2/5/15

Club Meet 18/4/15

Every so often we get the urge to have a game of something we’ve not played in a while, tonight’s game of choice was the World of Warcraft board game complete with Burning Crusade Expansion. Thanks to us having access to Burning Crusade it meant there was access to higher levels as well as more equipment and abilities, the only downside is that it makes a long game even longer.

World of Warcraft the board game

Gaz, Alex and Jon formed the Alliance and Matt, Alexander and Wayne formed the Horde. Both teams opted to stick together for the early encounters; this resulted in many monsters being stomped.

As the game progressed both sides stayed fairly even with neither the Horde nor Alliance being able to pull away, as the end drew near (and the hours long) Matt tried a risky gambit, soloing an Epic Ravager with a Shadow Priest… Due to a combination of less than stellar dice and a misunderstanding of how healing works it didn’t end well… (killing the critter was no issue, the problem was not getting killed before the final damage step!) Club Meet – 21/03/15

Last nights club meeting was a blast, 3 games of 40K and the conclusion to the Star Wars: Imperial Assault campaign.

Game 1 saw Gaz and his Eldar (Craftworld & Harlequins) take on Keiths Grey Knights with Imperial Knight support. The result was a massacre in favour of the Eldar with the Knights seeming just have dangerous masses haywire shots can be…

To the Darkside come you will
To the Darkside come you will

The second game saw two tendrils of the Hive Mind both fighting over the same planet, the result; a bloodbath…

Game 3 was Tau vs Dark Eldar, the result a win for the Tau but more importantly it let Sam have a run through of 7th Ed and get used to the subtle changes that have taken place to the Dark Eldar.

The Star Wars: Imperial Assault campaign ended well, there was a fear that ‘campaign creep’ meant the Heroes were too powerful for the Empire to stop, but the last mission was more than a match for them! It finished with the Wookiee downed to massed Stormtrooper fire, the Bothan out from being force-choked, the smuggler running for the hills, wounded and exhausted (she’s maintaining it was a tactical withdrawal). The campaign ended in a one on one duel between the Jedi-in-training and Darth Vader himself.

Vader was forced to retreat eventually and the heroes won the day (and the campaign).

Great club meeting, next time it’s 40K Kill Teams!
